From her Miss World 2000 award to her extensive Bollywood career to success in Hollywood in projects like Quantico And BaywatchPriyanka Chopra Jonas has built up a passionate fanbase.
The same goes for Sam Heughan after starring in Starz’s popular time-jumping historical drama for six seasons Foreigner.
They join forces in the romantic comedy In love again – Chopra Jonas as a children’s author who mourns the death of her fiancé and Heughan as the entertainment journalist she unknowingly texts on her dead love’s phone number. (In the end, she helps it come together: pop star Céline Dion, who is profiled by Heughan’s journo, plays herself and performs the songs on the soundtrack.)
Their chemistry is palpable – even if the actors admit that you can never quite predict these things.
“I always go in with hope,” Chopra Jonas told us in a recent interview where she was joined by Heughan (see above). “You know, Sam has an incredible career as a prolific actor, has done so much amazing work already and has an incredible fan following. And that the only way he probably got there is because he’s a nice guy and knows his trade.
“He’s just so professional and fun to work with, and he’s just charming on set and cheerful and happy and positive. And that only creates conditions in which beautiful scenes can happen.
Returns Heughan: “Pri is someone I have admired for a long time. … I just knew the first day, I mean there’s some expectation. I was nervous about how it would go and as soon as we started working we just realized we have the same ethos and the same humor I think too.
“I’m funnier, but sure,” Chopra Jonas cracks.
“Slightly funnier, and also competitive,” Heughan laughs back.
As you can see, even their interview is rom-commy. So what are the most romantic moments of their own lives?
“Your life is a rom-com,” Heughan tells Chopra Jonas.
“Oh, you could say that,” she agrees. “I’ve had a lot of rom-com moments. My faith [to Nick Jonas, who makes a hilarious cameo in Love Again] was one of them. I feel like it’s really made something out of the movies. Even I felt that. And I was in it.”
Heughan also reminds his co-star of how she and Jonas first met.
“Slid into my DMs,” she says. “So rom-com there.”
“And I try to write my life like a rom-com,” proclaims Heughan. “I’m going to DM everyone.”
