It may take longer for the Fast & Furious franchise to reach its destination than we previously thought.

While at the Fast X premiering red carpet in Rome on Friday, star Vin Diesel let it slip that the series’ eleventh entry might not be the end of the road, as previously confirmed. Now, he says, Fast X could be the first in a concluding trilogy.

“Without tipping the hat too much, I can say this: When making this film, the studio had asked if this could be a two-part film,” Diesel said. “And after the studio saw this Part 1, they said, ‘Can you make it Fast Xthe finale, a trilogy?'”

“It’s three acts in each story,” costar Michelle Rodriguez added.

When the reporter tried to get official confirmation, Diesel eloped with Rodriguez. “You’re going to get me in trouble here,” he said, laughing.

Universal representatives did not immediately respond to EW’s request for confirmation.

Diesel announced this earlier last month at CinemaCon Fast X consists of two films, with part 2 in 2025. Fast X director Louis Leterrier has officially signed on to direct the next one Fast & Furious film, with Universal describing it as a “companion film”. Fast X. That clarification makes much more sense after Diesel’s new claim.

Diesel has previously said he expects the 10th and 11th films to wrap up the main storyline, but now that will reportedly be expanded into a 12th film. Original, former Fast director Justin Lin would handle it Fast X, but he left the project last April, after filming had already started. Leterrier came in May to replace him.

Fast X brings back franchise stars Diesel, Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, John Cena, Jason Statham, Sung Kang, Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren. The film follows Dominic Toretto (Diesel) and his “Fast family” as they face a new foe: Jason Momoa’s Dante Reyes. Brie Larson and Meadow Walker Thornton-Allan, the daughter of the late Fast star Paul Walker, are also part of the cast.

Fast X races in theaters May 19.
