The internet is going crazy over this viral butter softening hack
There’s nothing worse than taking the butter out of the fridge to spread on your toast, only to find that it’s not spreadable at all.
Okay, okay, there are a few things that could be worse.
Like being halfway through a baking recipe and then needing room temperature butter.
A disaster, we know.
Take your butter and eat it right away too
If the option to wait for your butter to soften isn’t available to you (read: your patience isn’t there), then may we suggest a hack that will allow you to have your butter and eat it right away too.
This “cheat” lets you soften butter without melting it or waiting for it to reach room temperature.
‘The best baking tip ever’
An Australian mom posted the hack, dubbed ‘one of the best baking tips ever’, to a Facebook group and thousands were in awe of how simple it is.
“This actually works because I’ve tried it a few times already,” she wrote.
She explains, “If you need to soften butter quickly but don’t want it to melt, put boiling hot water in a glass to warm the glass.
Dump the water out and swirl it over your piece of butter. Within a few minutes it is perfectly soft and ready to use. Don’t mention it.”
The post has already received more than 18,000 likes and more than 50,000 shares.
“I was years old today, so handy!!” said one fan.
“Great tip! How did I go my whole life without knowing this? I always forget to take out the butter,” someone else added.
“This is unbelievable. Life = changed,” someone posted.
But not everyone was on board with the hack, with many saying you might as well microwave the butter for eight or nine seconds to soften it up.
“Or just pop it in the microwave,” one wrote.
Another commented: “I would never put boiling water in a glass because it would break it.”
